Increase your curb appeal to add up as much as 10 percent to your home’s value.

Potential home buyers form their first impression of a home from its curb appeal. So, why make a bad impression? A home’s outdoor landscaping is often overlooked or underdone in the preparation for the sales process. An attractive and well-maintained landscape can add as much as 10 percent to the value of your home!

Fortunately, you can put these tips into practice when sprucing up your home’s front garden to help it sell quickly!

Liven up outdoor containers.
Container plants, especially large tropical, can add considerable interest to patios and doorways where potential buyers enter and exit the house. Such displays demonstrate the endless possibilities for designing with container plants.

Touch up the mulch.
Adding a new layer of mulch is an instant way to refresh your garden. The color enhances the contrast of the surrounding plants and makes everything pop! What’s more, mulch is reasonably cheap and easy to apply!

Shape trees and shrubs.
Regardless of the season, it’s always a good idea to tackle any unsightly shrubbery and overgrown trees. The idea is to show how well your garden, as well as your home, has been maintained!

Plant some instant color.
Seasonal color makes the landscape pop as well, and flats of annuals are also relatively inexpensive!

Clean up water features.
Scrub your water fountains and bird baths to get rid of visible algae, remove leaves, and clean filters so that the water is crystal clear!

Take care of irrigation issues.
If you have any problems with an irrigation system, fix them! Even if this cost is expensive, you don’t want to lay the cost of those repairs on the buyer.

Use your BBQ with caution and safety.

Now that spring is here and summer is around the corner, the sunshine and the barbeques are out! Americans are notorious for lighting up their grill on a sunny afternoon, but it’s important to remember that barbeques should always be used with safety.

Whether you’re having a family cookout over the weekend, a neighbourhood party, or just enjoying a sunny afternoon, check out these tips to stay safe in grilling season:

Safe Grilling:

  • Read the owner’s manual. Always read the manual before using your grill and follow specific usage, assembly, and safety procedures.
  • Grills are for outside only. Barbeque grills are designed for outdoor use only! Never barbeque in your trailer, tent, house, or garage.
  • Keep the grill stable. When using a barbeque grill, ensure that all parts of the unit are firmly in place and that the grill is stable.
  • Divert little ones. Ensure that children and pets stay away from the grill at all times!
  • Wear safe clothing. Avoid loose clothing that may have hanging shirt tails, frills, or apron strings that can catch fire.
  • Keep the fire under control. Make sure that the flames don’t raise up by spreading the coals out evenly or adjust the controls to lower the temperature.
  • Be ready to extinguish flames. Use baking soda to control a grease fire and have a fire extinguisher handy. A bucket of sand or a garden hose should be nearby if you don’t have a commercial extinguisher!
  • Never leave the grill unattended once lit.

These tips will ensure you have a fun and safe time using your backyard grill! So you can focus on tending to your grill and enjoying the scenery of your garden, let us take care of the rest of your landscaping.
