California Lawn and Gardens: Better to Switch to Turf?

Is it time to switch to Turf? The lawns and gardens of Conejo Valley, Thousand Oaks, and Westlake Village are known for their green landscapes. It may be the perfect time to consider turf coverage with the state mandate reducing water usage by 20 percent by the year 2020.

Turf grass is a type of grass that is more luxuriant than the common green grass that grows tall and in bunches. When turf grass is professionally planted, this soft carpet is perfect for playgrounds and many landscape designs. This type of grass does not require daily watering, but should be professionally treated. Turf grass is thick and close to the ground, which aids in flood prevention in wet areas.  In hot and dry climates, the well-manicured lawn can actually cool the ground. There are definite advantages to maintaining this type of lawn, but there may be challenges, too.

Zoysia grass, centipede grass, and most other turf grasses are prone to problems such as disease, pests, and soil issues. However, with professional maintenance, problems can be avoided or, at least, short-lived with proper treatment.

It may be time to switch to turf grass if your lawn is not uniform, or grows in spiky bunches. Turf grass is environmentally sound, and beautifies a property. The lawns and gardens of Conejo Valley, Thousand Oaks, and Westlake Village have noteworthy landscapes and to continue the appeal of their properties, it may be time to switch from common grass to turf grass.
